While mowing his parents' lawn in 1975, college student Doyle Anderson was approached by his neighbor's landscaper asking if he'd like a summer job. That summer job turned out to last four years, which was just enough time for Doyle to decide that his new-found love of landscaping could be a perfect career. In 1980, Doyle left his job, founded Anderson Landscaping Contractors, Inc., and entered the ranks of the self-employed. We recently visited with Doyle, and listened as he offered this overview of his company;

Anderson Landscaping Contractors, Inc. is a full service, commercial and residential landscaping company specializing in new homes, trees and shrubs, seeding, patios and walkways, outdoor lighting, and hardscapes. We maintain a lot of properties that we've landscaped over the past twenty-five years, keeping them up-to-date by performing tear-outs and replanting where the landscaping has become overgrown. For the past five years, a lot of our business has been designing and installing water gardens that our clients find are the most relaxing and enjoyable parts of their yard.

Our company strives to provide each customer with a high degree of personalized service. I meet with each customer, produce the designs and drawings, and am on each job most of the time. My crew consists of three to four full-time staff members and we only work one job at a time, staying with each one until it's completed.

I've seen many changes in the industry over the past twenty-five years. When I started, landscaping was a lot of bull work with lots of back-breaking manual labor. The job is much easier today with all the new, back-saving equipment, such as the rock hounds that pick up the rocks from a new lawn automatically.
