Shirley Williams had always wanted to be a beautician so when the opportunity arose she jumped at the chance to attend cosmetology school. After graduating, she went to work in a local shop for two years until she decided that she'd like to be in business for herself. Shirley purchased the Brunswick Plaza Beauty Salon in 1977 and has been catering to a very loyal clientele at this forty-six year old salon ever since.

Along with the purchase of the shop and the equipment, Shirley discovered she had inherited many customers who had been patronizing the Brunswick Plaza Beauty Salon since it was run by the previous owners. As the years passed and these customers kept coming back, Shirley found her specialty was providing hair dressing services to ladies who still prefer to wear their hair up and teased. The Brunswick Plaza Beauty Salon is one salon that still rolls, sets, and blow dries hair in addition to skillfully using the bleach bottle to help keep dark roots at bay. Curling irons and rollers are the order of the day for her customers and Shirley even goes so far as to move the furniture around to provide the access needed by her clients who utilize wheelchairs to improve their mobility. Shirley and her helper do cutting, perms, and all kinds of coloring including highlighting and without naming names, Shirley assures us that some of her clients whose natural color is silver are now sporting locks of red. As one of the oldest shops in town, the Brunswick Plaza Beauty Salon strives to provide a comfortable atmosphere for their steady clientele with a television always tuned to Channel 19, the radio permanently stationed to 95.5 FM, and tapes featuring Christian music from Shirley's church. While Shirley and her helper tend to the needs of their long established customers, Shirley would like to find a younger stylist with the ability to handle the newer, trendier styles and a desire to own their own shop so Shirley can slowly bow out while having the confidence that the new owner will continue to accommodate the Brunswick Plaza Beauty Salon's long time clients. Appointments are recommended every day for prompt service but Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays are the best days for walk-in customers.
