Hinckley residents Don and Marianne Sposit have lived in the local area since the early 1990's. Originally an accountant, Marianne wanted to get back to work after raising her family and had noticed shops in California that catered exclusively to smokers. Recognizing an idea whose time had come, she and her husband opened one of the first tobacco outlet stores in the Cleveland area in 1996 and named it, appropriately, Discount Cigarette Mart. We caught up with Marianne the other day and listened as she gave us this overview of this family business:

Discount Cigarette Mart sells cigarettes, cigars, loose tobacco, and chewing tobacco. We also have novelties like lighters, cigarette cases, smoke-out candles, and unique ashtrays in addition to pop, candy, and lottery tickets. We try to provide a choice for smokers. Most places sell their cigarettes from behind the counter but we believe that people should have the right to look at the products and see all the choices available to them.

Every brand of cigarette has ten to twelve styles that we try to carry. We pride ourselves on the fact that if we don't have your brand, we'll get it and stock it for you. We also carry forty different brands of cigars and have a nice array of everything from low end cigars to the higher end at about ten to twelve dollars per cigar. Discount Cigarette Mart carries a variety of chewing tobaccos and snuff and we also stock a selection of loose tobacco for those who prefer to roll their own cigarettes.

Being on the border of Strongsville and Brunswick, we have the advantage of being able to serve a two county area. Unlike Strongsville, Brunswick has no sin tax and many of our customers come from Cuyahoga County to take advantage of the lower prices offered by our tax structure.

Discount Cigarette Mart is an adult environment with employees trained to identify minors who are attempting to purchase tobacco products illegally. Children are not even allowed in the store unless they are with a parent. We have a comfortable, family type atmosphere with employees knowing our customers by name and a fresh pot of coffee always brewing. When people come in, they stop to chat and we try to provide a comfortable place for them to shop.

One of the most important parts of our business is the wide variety of choices available to our customers. We strive to provide a wholesome, pleasant, adult environment where those who smoke can find their favorite brand while shopping in a comfortable setting.
