Wadsworth residents Robert and Phyllis Leatherman have been well known in the local hospitality industry since they opened Manner's Big Boy Restaurant in the 1950s, and then later, Michael's Restaurant in downtown Barberton. After dreaming of building a restaurant in their hometown for years, they began to assemble plans in 1998 to open a restaurant in Wadsworth that would be unlike anything local residents had experienced. On January 10, 2000, Robert and Phyllis, joined by their sons Bob and Sean and their daughters Karen and Robin, opened the doors to The Galaxy Restaurant. As they approach their five year anniversary, we stopped by for a visit and listened as they proudly described their facility;
The Galaxy Restaurant hosts a world of exciting entertainment options. We have a sports bar that seats 125 people, a 100 seat fine dining room, a café market area, and also 9,000 square feet of banquet space that can accommodate up to 500 guests. Throughout the facility you'll find the latest in audio and visual equipment in addition to high-speed Internet access including wireless hot spots. We also provide complete banquet and party planning services.
In our fine dining room, we offer traditional steak, seafood, and pasta specialties, an extensive wine list of over 200 selections that has won Wine Spectator Magazine's Award of Excellence the past three years, and exceptional service that's simply beyond compare. The sports bar is an exciting environment with 16 large screen TVs, NTN trivia, and we get all the NFL football games on Sundays. In the sports bar, guests can order from a full menu featuring a lot of the same steaks and seafood found in our dining room, but also from a full selection of sandwiches, wines, beers, and mixed drinks. Weather permitting, we open our outdoor patio which has an island-like atmosphere and our outside patio bar. Our café market serves gourmet coffees, pastries, and desserts and we also offer custom made gift baskets and a "Carry Out Entertaining" service to enable you to enjoy the taste and convenience of our menu at your next home party.
Our Executive Chef, John Schultz, has been with us for the past three years and has done a splendid job overseeing the freshness, quality, and consistency of the food we serve. Everything is prepared from scratch by our wonderful team of chefs including our own crackers! Our food is absolutely second to none and whether it's for an intimate dinner for two or a party of 400, the consistency and quality of the food stands testament to the fact that every morsel we serve throughout the entire property has been skillfully prepared from only the finest ingredients.
Our proximity to the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites we operate next door allows us to operate like a full service hotel. We provide room service for the Holiday Inn's guests and the Holiday Inn offers lodging accomodations including a honeymoon suite to our guests.
We host a number of events throughout the year including a Halloween costume party, New Year's Eve celebrations, and a St. Patrick's Day party. We hold wine tastings, dinner shows, and our annual October Fest. There's always something exciting going on here at The Galaxy!
