Founded in September of 2004, HHL Group, LLC is a joint effort of partners Joseph E. Kirgesner, CPA, CVA and Laurie B. Price, CPA. Joe and Laurie are advocates for the entrepreneurial spirit, dedicated to working with those individuals who risk everything in hope of making a better life for themselves and their families. We met with Joe and Laurie recently, and listened as they provided us with this overview of their company's offerings;
HHL Group, LLC is a Certified Public Accounting firm offering a full range of accounting, financial, and consulting services, in the areas of tax compliance, tax reporting, and tax planning. We provide financial preparation and attestation services, including audits, reviews and compilations. The Accountancy Board of Ohio has awarded HHL Group, LLC the highest level attainable in peer review. We perform financial analysis and design financial plans, particularly for small businesses and executives. We are also one of a handful of Certified Valuation Analysts (CVA) in northeast Ohio. We work with executives, professional athletes, and individuals working for major corporations who have unique tax and financial situations that can't be solved with a canned solution. We endeavor to remain involved with our clients, meeting with them several times a year to monitor their financial progress and adjust our strategies in accordance with the marketplace.
We strive to build long-term relationships with our clients. Some accountants believe the same solution is appropriate for many different businesses. We know that there are different elements that can be brought together to design a financial plan. We believe that a business person values the resources of a company having 25 years of experience in various industries, working with their bankers, attorneys, and insurance people, and who understand their vendors and their computer consulting needs. They want an independent advocate, someone who understands the small business environment, and will help to round out their management team for them. For many of our clients, our role can best be described as "Vice President of Finance".
In addition to working with small businesses and executives, we also perform forensic work and provide litigation support services. We've been named as an expert witness in over 300 cases since 1985. We assess closely-held businesses, including partial interests, losses and damages, and breach of contract issues. We've also offered testimony in accounting negligence suits, testifying as to damages resulting from the sub-standard work of other accountants.
We also provide business valuations, with more than 200 business valuations for business succession planning, estate planning, litigation support services, domestic relations, or just general banking and other purposes since 1985. Valuation of a closely-held business requires in-depth assessment of internal and external factors, sustainability of their business model, variability of future operations, size of ownership interest valued, and a myriad of other factors.
Our company name, HHL Group, reminds us on a daily basis of what we want to accomplish, not only with our clients, but also in our own lives. HHL stands for Health, Happiness, Light. As an individual, your health is extremely important, but beyond that, you need to be happy in what you do. The light refers to the spiritual, or the balance, if you will, between the different elements of being. In a corporate setting, health represents your balance sheet. You need a strong base of assets and a good organization that's well financed and has a healthy appearance. Happiness represents your business model and cash flow. If you have a sustaining business that does provide value, your customers will return. Light symbolizes dealing with your employees, vendors, customers and others in an ethical, enlightened manner.
