The Hobby Hangar

Herb Rauhaus has had a love of flying that began when he flew model airplanes as a child. A tool & die maker by trade, Herb received his private pilot license in 1960 and a few years later become interested in radio controlled airplanes. When a friend who owned a hobby shop offered to sell it to Herb, he jumped at the opportunity. The hobby shop remained a part time venture until 1993 when Herb decided to go full time and moved the Hobby Hanger to it's present location.

The Hobby Hangar stocks radio-controlled airplanes, rockets, and control-line airplanes. They have the old fashioned rubber-band powered model airplanes, kits to build planes, and all the supplies needed to build model planes from either plans or blueprints. The shop keeps a large stock of balsa wood used in building planes and other hobbies and they supply several schools with materials needed for science projects. Herb is always willing to pass along tips on building and flying model planes which is a great hobby for the whole family. The planes average between five and six pounds each and have a wing span of approximately five feet and behind The Hobby Hangar are thirty acres where you can learn the craft of flying these planes! The Hobby Hangar sponsors the Valley City Radio Controlled Club which meets two times a month at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Valley City and they are members of the Academy for Model Aeronautics. When he's not flying either real or model airplanes himself, Herb is available to give presentations to local clubs, schools, and other organizations.
