Jacob Sommer began his local feed business in Kidron in 1907 hoping to build a legacy to pass on to his son. When that son, L. E. Sommer, came along, the business was booming and was soon renamed L. E. Sommer & Sons, Inc. Since that time, current owner Don Sommer joined the firm in the 1950's and Don's son Hugh came on board in the 1970's. They moved the business to their current Seville location in 1986 and sold the original Kidron division in 2002. During a recent visit, Don Sommer told us about the company's current operations and their growing reputation;

L. E. Sommer & Sons, Inc. has four main divisions manufacturing and distributing feed for a variety of animals. Our newest division is dedicated to wild bird feed and we also have livestock feed, pet feed, and an agronomy division. Each of these serves Ohio and the neighboring states with products manufactured to the very highest quality standards. Our bird and pet feeds have become so popular that we've opened our own retail store that's been an immediate hit with our drive-in trade.

We're especially well known for our wild bird seed. This division has grown 50% a year for the past five years and we're currently shipping over fifty tons of wild bird feed every day. Many people drive back to Seville to buy our bird feed after they've moved elsewhere just because it's locally made and always fresh.

Our livestock business focuses on poultry, dairy, and horse feed. We deliver to a lot of local horse farms and it's important that we provide them with a high-quality, reliable product that's proven to be nutritious for their horses. We have a horse nutritionist on staff in addition to employing a dairy and a poultry nutritionist who work constantly to ensure our formulas provide the highest quality nutrition possible.
