John Kuhar has been a Medina resident since 1979, the year he opened Medina Motorsports. Growing up in Cleveland, John was always working on cars and motorcycles and when he decided to leave city life for the more tranquil atmosphere of Medina County, he brought his passion for racing and restoring vehicles with him. Now with over thirty years experience serving the racing, restoration, and repair needs of the local community, Medina Motorsports has become the shop "to know" for all of your needs. John describes the work of himself and his employees like this:
Medina Motorsports primarily handles custom building and repairing of street rods, classic cars, and motorcycles. We 're pretty much a one-stop shop where you can get everything you need whether it's parts or accessories, machine shop services, engine and transmission rebuilding and repair, engine balancing, restorations or even having a race car built. We can handle both the mechanical and cosmetic restoration of a car or motorcycle and we do a lot of imports.
We have a complete machine shop including an engine dynamometer. We can repair/rebuild any type of engine from a tractor to a Ferrari. We have much experience with exotic engines, i.e. drag racing, road racing, vintage racing, and hot street machines. Our engine dyno allows us to tune engines and obtain maximum horsepower and torque outputs, or simply use to test run a collector/vintage engine before installation.
Medina Motorsports was started in 1979 on Lafayette Road and we moved to our present location in 1995. I've been working on cars and motorcycles my whole life and after working for other people for years, I decided to open my own shop and work for myself. My favorite part of the business is doing the actual work of rebuilding racing and collector engines, modifying cars, and doing the restorations. Even though there are four of us working here, I still love to actually do the work myself rather than just being a manager.
Many people find classic vehicles from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s that they'd like to restore or custom build, but they either don't have the time or the capabilities to handle the project themselves. We take pictures of the vehicle, disassemble it, find or make the needed parts, make the necessary repairs, and then reassemble the vehicle. We make a lot of our own parts right here in the shop and when the vehicle leaves our shop, we make sure it's either like new or better than new. Medina Motorsports does a lot of mechanical restoration for race cars, classic cars, and motorcycles.
We do a lot of custom work on both old and new vehicles. We can take an older car and install a brand new, modern engine while keeping the original body so you have the best of both worlds. These "21st Century Cars" retain their classic appearance while their new engines and suspensions make them drive like a new car. We can also take new vehicles and enhance their performance with custom engines, supercharger kits, drivetrains, etc.
We also restore, rebuild, and/or customize Harley-Davidson motorcycles, as well as British and Japanese motorcycles, from antiques to modern cruisers. Again, we can handle any part of engine machining, electronic engine balancing, and/or ground-up restorations.
For the finest custom repairs and restoration work of vintage and racing vehicles, Medina Motorsports is the one-stop answer to your needs. Call Medina Motorsports for an estimate today and while you're on the telephone, don't forget to tell them that The Advocate sent you!
