Mike Wayne has been involved with auto body repair for almost thirty years. He's been in love with custom cars, hot rods, and motorcycles since his high school days and working with vehicles is all he ever wanted to do. In 1981, Mike opened Midwest Motors in Medina and has remained in the same location while making auto body repair his specialty. The auto body repair that takes place at Midwest Motors is not your garden variety dented fender or scratched bumper on your 1992 Chevy sedan type of work. Mike and his crew only handle what is referred to as heavy collision repairs. Heavy collision is where the vehicle has been in an accident and become so mangled that it just doesn't look like there could have been any survivors or that the vehicle can even be repaired. Most of their work is performed for insurance companies and they will repair cars, trucks, and anything else on wheels or that used to be on wheels before the accident. With over $50,000 of frame and measuring equipment, Mike makes sure that every repair matches the vehicle manufacturer's blueprints to within three hundredths of an inch. Midwest Motors doesn't do typical vehicle paint jobs but as a full, heavy collision shop, they do paint the parts that they've repaired using the highest quality paints from Sherwin Williams that carry a lifetime warranty. Custom paint mixing is done on-site and one of the most common comments heard from customers is that they can't even tell where the repairs are. Mike responds with, "Of course you can't tell where it was repaired. If you pay to have your vehicle repaired and you can tell where it's fixed that just means that the job wasn't done right!" With the right equipment, the capability, and the in-depth knowledge required by heavy collision work, Mike keeps his operation small and personal and still does a lot of the work himself. His top quality repairs and his philosophy that his customers are his bosses has earned Mike the trust of his clients and many long term relationships that have resulted in Midwest Motors handling the auto body work for several generations of the same family. While Mike and his crew will repair any vehicle regardless of the vehicle's age, the insurance usually only authorizes heavy collision work for newer, more expensive vehicles. Older vehicles with the same amount of damage are considered totaled. Mike still works on hot rods and motorcycles as a hobby and for his customers and, occasionally, he'll buy and sell cars and motorcycles for his customers. In the near future, Midwest Motors will be opening a new department that will specialize in supplying motorcycle parts and accessories to biking enthusiasts throughout the local area. Mike Wayne enjoys the challenges presented by heavy collision repair work and he takes pride in the fact that not many people are qualified for heavy collision repair. When you have a vehicle that's mangled beyond comprehension and it's worth having repaired, you need the talents of Mike Wayne and his crew at Midwest Motors. While you're talking to Mike, don't forget to tell him that The Advocate sent you! |
