From a part time hobby to one of the finest examples of local craftsmanship you'll ever see, Stampers' Woodworking Shop has been growing in expertise and reputation for over twenty years. In this day of "custom" this and "custom" that, George, Willie, and Karla Stamper have brought back the true meaning of the word "custom" in their flawless execution of all things wooden. After cajoling Willie to turn off the saw, we were treated to this explanation of how they started and their wide range of products:
Stampers' Woodworking Shop got it's start in 1978, after my father retired. Looking for something to occupy his spare time, he bought a table saw and a router and began making small projects using skills he picked up from woodworking books. He started out making picture frames and small boxes while I was still in high school and he'd often ask me to help out by holding this and gluing that. We worked in his garage where we began to build cabinets and other specialty projects in the evenings and on weekends. In 1989, I left my job and joined my father in the woodworking business full time. We moved the equipment from the garage to the newly remodeled barn in 1991 and, three years later, were joined in the business by my wife Karla. We're family owned and operated and specialize in building custom cabinets and specialty furniture from the finest materials available.
Stampers' Woodworking Shop makes pretty much anything out of wood. We do kitchen cabinets and counter tops, entertainment centers, China cupboards, jewelry boxes, roll top desks, end tables, and storage pieces for Cd's and tapes. We've made tool boxes, machinists' tool chests, and I make a lot of fancy wooden bowls and novelty items like turned wood pens.
For customers involved in new construction, for example, they'll bring their plans to me and I'll provide them with a quote on the work they want done. If they're looking for a piece of furniture and have a picture or a sketch of the item, I will do the layout and design and build the piece to their specifications. For those who don't already have the plans or a sketch, I'll go to their site, measure everything, and offer suggestions on what we can do. Once they've come to a decision, I can handle everything from the layout and design through the final installation.
We do a lot of work for people who are upgrading their kitchens and we provide two lines of cabinets to make sure we can help them reach their goals. Our custom line is designed for those who are looking for high end, totally custom built cabinets and is available in a limitless variation of shapes, sizes, and woods. I design the cabinets, buy the raw materials, , machine them, assemble and finish them, and, finally, deliver them to their location where I complete the installation. We also carry the Rivera Cabinets which are highly respected factory made cabinets that offer good quality craftsmanship at an affordable price. Rivera makes the cabinets, ships them to me, and we handle the installation at the job site. We can stain cabinetry to match existing woodwork and, if necessary, have custom colors formulated to enable the new work to blend perfectly with the old.
Stampers' Woodworking Shop also does smaller jobs like jewelry boxes, decorative bowls, gun cabinets, desks, and coffee, end, and kitchen tables. We can build practically anything from wood and I always tell our customers that "if I can see a picture of it, I can duplicate it!"
