Founded in Georgia in 1955, Waffle House® has grown from a single restaurant to over 1,400 restaurants located throughout 25 states. A few years back, Clay Carrington's uncle was Waffle House's second largest franchise owner. Clay, a native of Mobile, Alabama, worked for his uncle, and after his uncle sold his 100 restaurants, Clay decided to buy a franchise of his own. After careful study, Clay moved to Medina, purchased Unit 1540 in Akron, and opened the Waffle House® in Medina in 2003. We stopped by Waffle House® recently, and listened as Clay and Restaurant Manager Peggy Allison gave us this overview of the Waffle House® experience;
Waffle House® specializes in serving good food fast®, that's our motto. We're open twenty-four hours a day, every day of the year serving omelets, steaks, cheesesteaks, wraps, salads, hamburgers, pork chops, chicken, waffles, desserts, and just about anything you'd want. Our entire menu is available twenty-four hours a day, and it's all available "to go", too.
Waffle House® is a different type dining experience. Every order is called in to the cooks rather than being written down on a piece of paper. You can hear your food being ordered, and you can watch it being cooked. All of our food is good, and we serve it to you fast. That's been a Waffle House® tradition since 1955.
We serve homemade grits and our hash browns are prepared thirty different ways. You can get your hash browns scattered, smothered, covered, chunked, diced, peppered, capped, and topped. Scattered is just scattered on the grill as they're being cooked, smothered means smothered with onions, covered is covered with cheese. You can have them with chopped ham, diced tomatoes, peppers, mushroom caps, or topped with chili. All of our food is top-of-the-line quality. We have Coca Cola®, Heinz ketchup and steak sauces, Jimmy Dean meats, and Grade A eggs. It's a little known fact that two percent of the eggs sold in the United States are sold to Waffle House®.
We're a member of the Medina Chamber of Commerce, and I'm also a member of the local Rotary Morning Club. Our customers like the fact that we greet everybody as they come in the door. Every member of our staff is friendly, and they strive to make everyone feel welcome. We have an old style jukebox, and a real comfortable place to visit with your friends while enjoying some great food.
Multi-platinum country music superstar Trace Adkins will go from the stage to the grill as he "cooks it up for his fans" at Waffle House® restaurants this summer. Adkins will meet winners of local radio contests at a Waffle House® the day of his concert in select cities, share one of his favorite meals, and maybe flip an egg or two.
